The remains discovered in Plumsted Towns have been positively identified as those of Joseph Izquierdo, 37, of Egg Harbor, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer
On April 9, the Plumsted police received a 911 call about human remains foiund in a wooded area approximately one-quarter mile from Route 528, Billhimer said.
Officers found the remains to be in advanced stages of decomposition, he said.
On May 14, the results of an examination of the human remains by the New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropology Unit and a Forensic Odontologist, were forwarded to the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
On Wednesday, May 24, the results were reviewed by the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office and the human remains were positively identified as that of Izquierdo, the prosecutor said.
The cause and manner of death still remain under investigation, he said.
Billhimer acknowledges the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Plumsted Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropology Unit, Federal Bureau of Investigation K-9 Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office for their help with the investigation.
